Escada by Margaretha Ley 

Escada is a German luxury women's clothing company started in 1978. Escada was founded by Margaretha and Wolfgang Ley in Munich, Germany. The company quickly stood out with its distinctive creations; featuring unusual combinations of colors and patterns, exclusive embroidery and elaborately designed knitted fashions. Escada divides its business activities into three segments: 

Fashion: Escada Couture and Escada Sport 

Accessories: bags, shoes and small leather goods 

Licenses: Escada fragrances, eyewear and children's fashion

Escada went public in 1986 and found itself in financial distress in 1986. The company was purchased by the Indian billionaire family, the Mittals. Escada was the target of animal rights activists for years for using real fur. Finally in 2011, Escada went fur free. 

For the A-Z list, I'm focusing on vintage Escada by Margaretha Ley pieces. Other Escada items can be profitable, but play it by ear. Margaretha Ley pieces have a small presence on ebay. Currently, 1,095 pre-owned Margaretha Ley items are listed and 554 have sold recently. Here are a few of those items: 

I have found three Escada items: two by Margaretha Ley and one Escada Sport item. These items are:

I haven't sold the jacket yet but it has drawn a lot of interest. 

My advice: look for Escada by Margaretha Ley pieces. The jackets, suits, dresses, and blouses all go for high prices. The more colorful the item, the better. All Escada items have amazing quality. You will feel the difference when you touch an Escada piece. The fabric is fabulous! Pick up the Margaretha Ley items you find.
