A-Z Brands: N Part III

October was the best month I've ever had on eBay. I sold 10 more items than I've ever sold in a month and made $5.00 more than last September. Hard work + smart work definitely pays off. Last November was my worst month of the year, so it won't take much to improve from last year. I still have about 15 items to list from my Naples trip: the jackets and shoes, which are the big $. I will get that done on Monday and Tuesday! Here is a Halloween picture as promised:

My Cookie Monster costume got me made fun of by teenage boys 😡. It was really strange for me since I coached teenage boys for years and Cookie Monster suddenly would've been cool in their eyes, if I wore the costume. Times have changed!

A-Z Brands: N

Naked & Famous Jeans

Naked & Famous Denim may be a company you've never heard of; that has a very unique history. Naked & Famous was started in Febuary 2008 by Brandon Svarc. Svarc, a Canadian Jew (his words), created the brand as a reaction to celebrity obsessed culture. He saw brands such as True Religion that weren't selling jeans but selling sex and glamour. Svarc thought he could make superior jeans for a cheaper price; he started the company as the economy declined and his cheaper Jean were well received.

Svarc has a unique personal history. All four of his Grandparents were Holocaust survivors. His Grandfather was on Schindler's List; saved by Oscar Schindler and liberated from Auschwitz. Svarc's Grandfather moved to Canada after the war with nothing, started a clothing business and passed it down to his son. Friends constantly told Svarc "You're great at marketing, use the celebrities and magazines and be successful like all the other denim companies." Yet; Svarc's Grandfather told him before passing away "Don't listen to those idiots, all you gotta do is one thing: make a better product than your competitors for a better price and you'll be successful." Svarc used his Grandfather's advice to determine the philosophy of Naked & Famous Denim.

Naked & Famous goes to Japan and finds the rarest denim possible and brings it back to Canada. There are no washes, embroidery, gimmicks or tattoos on their jeans. Naked & Famous jeans are raw selvage denim made on old machines in Japan that were left behind in the 1950's.

The simplicity of the jeans allows the company to make a more expensive product for a better price. The staff is even simple. Naked & Famous sells in over 30 countries but only Svarc and his sales manager complete all the sales. They have no distributors, sales agents, reps or PR firm. Naked & Famous does no advertising ever! They also don't give celebrities free product. Justin Bieber's stylist requested some jeans and she was told by Svarc, "Here is Barney's in Beverly Hills address. They have valet parking. You can find our jeans there. Go buy some." Naked & Famous logo and company philosophy make fun of people obsessed with celebrity, who will buy a pair of jeans just because a celebrity wears them.

Naked & Famous jeans are relatively rare on eBay. Currently, there are only 503 pre-owned pairs listed and 397 pairs have sold recently. 99% of those pairs are men's jeans. So, search the men's jeans section for Naked & Famous jeans. As a general rule: ALWAYS check the men's jeans section when thrift shopping. Men's jeans are one of the biggest money making sections in the store.

Here are some recent sales:

I have bought and sold two pairs of Naked & Famous jeans. Oddly enough one pair I found was a women's pair of jeans. Both pair sold quickly and for a nice profit. When looking for Naked & Famous jeans: the logo on the jeans is a naked cartoon woman. You can't miss them! Here are the ones I've sold:

Like most other brands on the A-Z list, you won't find Naked & Famous jeans very often. If you do, buy them. Any pair that costs you under $10 should bring you a nice profit and sell quickly.
